Day 01

Meet on arrival @ airport. Transfer to Hotel in Negombo. Rest of the day at leisure. Dinner & overnight stay.


Negombo
A characteristic fishing town, North of Colombo, 06 kms from the International airport. Negombo is a gourmet's paradise with plenty of seafood, like seer, skipjack, herring, mullet & amber jack & lobster & prawns from the lagoon. All kind of water sports is readily available at Negombo. The beach is known the most photogenic in the island. predominantly Roman Catholic with it's many churches, Negombo is known as little Rome.


Day 02

After breakfast leave for Anuradhapura, en - route visit Pinnawala elephant orphanage. Check in at hotel for refreshments & city tour of Anuradhapura. Back to hotel for dinner & overnight stay.

Anuradhapura
Sri Lanka's first capital funded in the 5th Century B.C. is situated in the dry zone. It is one of Sri Lanka's premier ancient cities. The main highlights are: the sacred Bo tree (2200 years old), royal twin baths, Isurumuniya rock temple, 1st century Abey giriya, 3rd century Jetavanarama( a world heritage site), the brazen palace with 1600 monolithic columns, the Samadhi Buddha, carved in solid rock, guardstones, moonstones, twin ponds, Ruwanveliseya & Thuparama.


Day 03

After breakfast leave for Trincomalee, en-route visit Mihintale.Proceed to Nilaweli Beach Resort for your beach stay. Check in at hotel for dinner & overnight stay.

Trincomalee
Trincomalee is famed for it's natural harbour ranked as the world's fifth largest. The landmark is the British Fort Frederick. The cliff known as swami rock, is associated with a tragic romantic tale woven around a Dutch maiden who jumped from the rock seeing her lover sailing away., A highly venerated Hindu shrine is located inside the fort. One of the finest beaches Nilaweli is located off Trincomalee. 11 kilometers from Trincomalee are the Kanniyai Hot springs, sacred to the Hindus. A short ride off Nilaweli is the Pigeon Island.


Day 04

After breakfast @ leisure. Dinner & overnight stay @ Nilaveli.


Day 05

After breakfast forenoon @ leisure. Afternoon city tour of Trincomalee. Back to hotel for dinner & overnight stay.


Day 06

After breakfast leave for Sigiriya, Check in at hotel. Evening climb Sigiriya Rock. Back to hotel for dinner & overnight stay.


Sigiriya
A stunning rock mass known as the fortress in the sky was built in the 5th century by King Kassapa, nominated as the eighth wonder in the world is a world heritage site. Sigiriya is a masterpiece of construction, irrigation & art. The highlights are the world – famous frescoe paintings, the mirror wall, the summit of the rock, 1.5 hectares, is the site of the old palace, the throne & a swimming pool. The water gardens is restored to it's former glory & is a world heritage site.


Day 07

After breakfast leave for Polonnaruwa, city tour & in the afternoon a jeep safari to Kaudulla/Minneriya National park. If desires an elephant – back jungle safari. Evening back to hotel for dinner & overnight stay.

Polonnaruwa
The island's medieval capital (11Cen – 12 Cen.) rose to fame, after Anuradhapura's decline. Polonnaruwa shows the interesting blend of the influence of south Indian hindu culture on the sinhala Buddhist art & architecture. The highlights are the Siva devales, the gal vihare complex which houses four statues of Buddha carved out in living rock, lankatileke viharaya, thivanka imagehouse, alahena pirivena monastery, stone book, watadage,hatadage,kiri vehera & the giant man-made reservoir, the sea of parakrama bigger than the Colombo harbour.


Day 08

After early breakfast leave for Kandy. En-route visit Dambulla cave temples, a spice garden. On arrival in Kandy, city tour , Late evening visit the temple of the tooth & witness a cultural dance show, back to hotel for dinner & overnight stay.


Dambulla
A rock mass which was converted to a rock temple in the 1st century BC by King Walagambahu who took refuge. Five caves in number houses the biggest collection of Buddha statues including a colossal Buddha statue, 14 meters carved out in solid rock. Some of the paintings covering the walls & the ceilings are over 2000 years old.

 

Kandy
The last seat of the Sinhala kings ceded power to the British in 1815 & is the most visited place in the island. Situated 488 meters above sea level, Kandy is the most popular destination for foreigners as well as for locals. It's main attraction is the Dalada Maligawa, which houses the sacred tooth relic of lord Buddha. The high light of the year is the annual perahera, held in July/august every year, when a replica of the relic casket is taken in procession for ten glittering nights accompanied by exotically costumed dancers, drummers & over 100 elephants. There are numerous shrines & temples in and around Kandy with rare paintings, frescoes & stone carvings. Visit the royal botanical gardens at peradeniya, which houses over 4000 species of plants. Kandy is an exciting place for shopping, with souvenirs in ebony, silver, brass, bronze, lacquer works, handlooms, gemstones & batiks.


Day 09

After breakfast, leave early for Nuwara Eliya, en-route visit a tea factory, lunch(optional) at a restaurant overlooking Ramboda Falls. On arrival in Nuwara Eliya, check in at hotel. Later city tour of Nuwara Eliya. Dinner & overnight stay.

Nuwara Eliya
Nuwara Eliya was discovered by a British hunting party in 1819, 1890 meters above sea level, the British succeeded in creating an English countryside, with homes in style from Georgian to queen Anne, well kept lawns with hedges, beautiful parks, a golf course, a hunting club, a race track & a lake. Close to Nuwara Eliya is Horton plains, Sri Lanka's highest and most isolated plateau is a nature lover's paradise. Hakgala botanical gardens was founded in 1860, by the eminent British Botanist, Dr.G.H.K. Thwaites, it became the nursery for the growing of Chinchona, whose bark yields quinine, which was widely used to treat malaria. Hakgala has plantations of roses, shrubs, orchids, ferns, eucalyptus & montane woodland.


Day 10

After breakfast with packed lunch leave for Horton Plains, explore Horton Plains & back to hotel in the evening for dinner & overnight stay.

Horton Plains
The high elevation, upto 2300 meters above sea level, leads to extensive grasslands surrounded by montane forests rich with endemic species. Sambar deer are seen in abundance. Bear monkeys are often heard. Bridle paths through the Plains leads to the precipice known as World's End, from the edge of this cliffe, the plantains below is a sheer drop of 1,050 meters. To experience the view one has to lie on stomach and peep over. Horton Plains experiences some of the lowest temperatures in Sri Lanka. The total annual rainfall is 2540 mm. This high rainfall leads to the distinctive ecosystems of Horton plains and to it being at the heart of Sri Lanka's river systems.


Day 11

After breakfast leave early for Yala, En-route stop at Ella Gap & Ravana Falls. If time permits afternoon jeep safari to Yala National Park. Dinner & overnight stay.

Yala National Park
Yala National park is approximately 1,259 sq. km in extent and is located in the south eastern corner of the island. While the elephant is the main attraction at Yala, large herds of spotted deer, sambhur, endemic Muntjac or barking deer could be sighted. At Yala the sight of a leopard sunning itself or drinking at a water hole could be a memorable experience.



Day 12

Early morning jeep safari with packed breakfast (if safari is missed on day 07) Proceed to Galle. City tour of Galle, check in at hotel for dinner & overnight stay.

Galle
Located south of Colombo, Galle is a seaport city, Galle owes it glory to it's harbour, history suggests that Gall is the Tarshish of the Bible. It has a Dutch colonial heritage of nearly four centuries. An imposing 17th Century fort (a UNESCO world Heritage site), ramparts and the church are among fascinating relics of it's past. A splendid Dutch building, the oldest within the fort has been restored to its original grandeur and consists of a Museum, art gallery & the arcade. Galle is famous for lace making, ebony carving, and gem cutting & polishing.


Day 13

After breakfast leave for Colombo, en-route visit a turtle hatchery, a mask factory & witness stilt fishermen at Weligama. On arrival in Colombo, check in at hotel For dinner & overnight stay.


Colombo
The commercial capital of Sri Lanka, with bustling bazaars, Buddhist & Hindu temples and mosques contrast with high rises, smart modern shopping malls and chain hotels is thickly populated. Sight seeing highlights include the Colombo National & Dutch period museums, old and new Parliament Houses, interesting Buddhist temples & shrines, Hindu temples, dedicated to different gods, and a short distance from Colombo the Dehiwela Zoo is located. Kelaniya Buddhist temple, one of the three places, Lord Buddha visited is also located in the immediate suburbs of the city. A 36 feet beautifully executed Buddha statue is erected opposite the BMICH.


Day 14

After breakfast, shopping & leave for airport to connect departure flight. (Airport check in: prior to 03 hrs prior to departure).
